Where Should You Rent Movies Online? Blockbuster or Netflix?
Isn’t it frustrating when you go to your local movie rental store, only to find out that the movie you had been hoping to see is already checked out?
Companies like Blockbuster and Netflix feel your pain, and their new online services make it easier than ever before to rent movies online.
Here’s a quick look at these two services, including how they are the same and how they differ.
Blockbuster Online
Users have two main options to rent movies online from Blockbuster. The first option is to rent a movie online and have the DVD mailed to you. Usually, the DVD will arrive within two business days of placing your order through their website.
Memberships for this service begin at $9 per month, but you can rent more movies at one time by paying a little bit more. There are no late fees and as soon as you return your movies, you can rent more.
The other way to rent movies online from Blockbuster is to download them directly to your computer. Once you’ve downloaded the movie, you can watch it within thirty days, and as many times as you like in a 24-hour period.
Unlike the mailing option, this option is on a pay-per-rental basis, with no late fees and no membership fees.
Blockbuster still have their bricks and mortar stores so you can also rent and return their movies (from your online account) in one of their stores

Netflix
Blockbuster started offering their customers a chance to rent movies online only because Netflix was cutting into their profits.
Netflix remains more popular than Blockbuster, but the rental giant is starting to catch up by offering features that Netflix does not.
For example, Blockbuster’s rental by mail plan includes Blu-ray discs, but at Netflix, Blu-ray users have to pay extra. Other than that, the fee structures are almost the same.
When you rent movies online, you can also stream movies from the internet directly to your PC, Mac, or TV. Unlike Blockbuster, this option is included in the Netflix monthly fee. At the moment, their download selection includes 17,000 movies and television shows.
Both services are great. The one you choose really depends upon what you’re looking for in a service when you rent movies online and your personal viewing habits.
